Zeibekiko | Ζεϊμπέκικο

Zeibekiko is a traditional Greek solo dance built on rhythm and improvisation. It does not follow fixed choreography, and every performance develops differently. The dancer responds to the music in real time—often starting from stillness and gradually building movement as the rhythm unfolds. The focus is not on memorized steps, but on timing, control, and personal interpretation. It is commonly performed in social settings such as gatherings and celebrations, where it functions as a form of individual expression within a shared cultural space.

How the lessons work

Private lessons begin with understanding the rhythm of Zeibekiko—how it is structured, where the accents fall, and how the body can respond to it.

From there, we work with movement vocabulary: simple foundational forms that are used as building material rather than fixed choreography.

As the lessons progress, these elements are combined into guided improvisation exercises, helping you develop control, timing, and the ability to stay present within the music.
